Problem Summary

The DoubleDoor team was preparing to launch the beta version of the international real estate buying platform. The team had been working on the product for about 6 months and were ready for a release to a small number of users. I joined the team towards the end of the release to help out with beta launch.

I worked with the design team to do a final review of the platform across all the user flows on web and mobile.

Goals

1. Identify any discrepancies between current designs and the staging site
2. Finalize core components in the style guide
3. Create a landing page for the beta launch

Reviewing Current Work

A key piece to our work was reviewing all of the content on the staging site. We went through each flow and identified any outdated or incorrect components, brand colors that were not aligned and responsiveness on mobile.

With the desired changes in mind, we created a list that was divided into different phases based on priority. We reviewed the changes with both the product manager and CEO then slated stories for the development team to make changes.

Aligning the Style Guide

The initial 6 months of design work involved hundreds of screens for sign-up flows, viewing real estate properties, handling user information and many other product features.

The style guide was robust but inevitably fell out of date given the numbers of screens and speed of work. The team focused on updates to core user flows slated for the beta launch to document components then worked outward from there. We paid the closest attention to typography, buttons, alignment and core components.

Through research we found a large percentage of the user base would be accessing the platform on mobile. Maintaining the integrity of those style guide items across screen sizes was a huge challenge and took extra attention.

Creating a Landing Page

We built a landing page to help showcase integral pieces of the platform to potential users. We had a few points of focus for the messaging.

The landing page came out really clear and concise. We reused some of the styling and iconography from the design system and highlighted a number of important features from the platform.

Conclusion

DoubleDoor was a really exciting experience. I had the opportunity to manage two junior designers, build a deeper understanding of launching an international platform and ultimately design with a tight-knit, hard-working team which helped grow my design career immensely.
